Scary Story - Justin K

Scary Story

By Justin K

It all started on a wonderful summer day when me and my friend James decided to go to my step grandpas cabin he had on a lake where there were no other cabins to do some fishing. We got there Friday morning and were planning on staying there until Sunday afternoon, but our plans soon changed.

We fished all day Friday and caught a lot of really nice bass. That night we made a little fire and sat around it until about 11:30 p.m. before deciding to go to bed. We walked into the cabin and the first thing I notice is that my fishing tackle is messed up, I never really thought anything of it I thought James had dug through it or something. We sat down around the table with the lights on and started talking. We talked for a very short period of time and I heard something outside next to the cabin, it sounded like something digging. The first thing I thought of was a raccoon, so I opened the window and hollered and heard it run away.

We decided to go to bed at about midnight so we jumped into our bunks and I flicked the lights off. There was a full moon that night and it was shining brightly into my window. We layed in our bed for a couple minutes and suddenly there was a loud pounding on the door, I jumped up and turned the lights on and immediately thought James did it trying to scare me. After yelling at him for a bit I realized it wasn’t him when I could hear something scratching on the door and he was standing next to me. We both froze, the noise stopped and after about ten minutes we went back to bed. We layed in bed for a couple minutes and I saw a figure walk by my window in the moonlight, I didn’t say anything cause I didn’t want James to freak but then I suddenly heard him start breathing really heavily when the figure walked by his window. I jumped up and turned the lights on again and found a hatchet that I was going to use for our protection. We were standing in the cabin with the lights on when I realized we couldn’t see outside with the lights on but whatever is out there can see in when we have the lights on, so I turned the lights off and at this time James has tears coming down his eyes. I finally decided we couldn’t stay hear and that we needed to get out, so I told James we were going to make the 200 yard run to my car. We promised each other before we left that if anything happened to one of us when we took off running that the other person wouldn’t leave and that they would come back and help.

After about ten minutes we had finally built up the courage to go so we hit the door and took off with me holding the hatchet. We ran through the trees and the darkness faster than we have ever ran before and James lost his shoes somewhere along the way. To this day neither of us have ever been back, and as far as we know his shoes are still laying in the trees.
